I caught “The Stars We Do Not See” at the Denver Art Museum on its final weekend. Near the end of the exhibit, I turned a corner and found a wall of letters, souvenirs from Australia’s colonial era, and I stood there a lot longer than I meant to.
That wall stayed with me because it’s the same question I keep circling back to in AI work: what got built into the thing before anyone thought to ask. Training data carries its own wall of letters, and most of us never turn the corner to look at it. Colorado’s new AI regulations take effect in January 2027, and the grace period for not knowing what your models are made of is closing faster than most companies realize.
